Glenview
The Village’s full-time staff had grown
to 354 in 2005 to handle redevelopment
of the former Glenview Naval Air
Station into The Glen. As that major
project neared build-out and the work
load for it lessened, the Village, for the lastseven years, has
been able to continue to decrease staffing levelsand identify
services that could be privatized to reduce headcount.
Other initiatives to control personnel costs in2012 include
higher employee contributions for healthinsurance; lower
pay and benefit packages negotiated fornewly-hired firefighter
and emergency dispatch telecommunicators; anumber of
service provider contracts renegotiated at lowercosts; and
no pay increases for senior
managers.
The budget also calls for extending
the life cycle of Villageowned
vehicles and modifying
replacement costs.
A recent initiative through
which Glenview partners on
purchases with neighboring
communities also is showing
cost-containment promise. The
municipalities are leveraging
economies of scale and taking
advantage of favorable bidding
environments on everything
from roadway resurfacing to
crack sealing to water pipe leak detection.
